Duval County Juvenile Criminal Court in Jacksonville Florida

Jacksonville Juvenile Court

Duval County Court House: W Adams St Jacksonville, FL 32202

Most Jacksonville juvenile criminal cases are handled on the second floor of the Duval County Courthouse.  The courtroom that your case is handled in will depend on the judge is assigned the case.  Each judge has a different division.  The Duval County Courthouse is located at 501 West Adams Street, Jacksonville, Florida 32202.  The clerk of courts’ website give some information about the Jacksonville juvenile delinquent court system.  Unlike the majority of court records, “Juvenile Court proceedings are confidential and not open to the public. For access to information in a court file, the requesting person must appear at the Juvenile Department service counter with a proper picture I.D.”  The clerk will not release information about a Duval County juvenile criminal case.  Information about the case may only be release to the child or the parents or legal guardian.  If the child or his or her parents have hired a Jacksonville juvenile lawyer to represent the child, the Jacksonville lawyer will have access to the file.

In juvenile court, the charges can range from misdemeanors to felonies.  Unlike adult court, misdemeanors and felonies will go to the same courtroom.  This is circuit court.  For adults, misdemeanors are in county court while felonies are in circuit court.  Common misdemeanor charges are Jacksonville petit theft or drinking underage.  Drug offenses are also common among teenagers.  This would include Jacksonville drug paraphernalia and marijuana possessionFlorida burglary and grand theft are common felony charges in juvenile court.  While these are not violent crimes, a recent report has shown that children in Duval County are tending to be arrested for more violent crimes.  Read Duval County Juvenile Criminal Cases and Minority Arrests for more information.

Some people think that juvenile charges are not serious, but they are.  Although the record is confidential, certain background checks will reveal a Florida criminal record with juvenile arrests.  As a Jacksonville criminal lawyer, I have represented adults and children.  While it is hard enough to be an adult and deal with an arrest, it is even harder for children.  They have a difficult time discussing their feelings and processing everything that is going on in the criminal justice system.  They are also upset with themselves for disappointing their parents.

This is a hard time for everyone involved.  That is were Jacksonville Florida attorneys with experience handing Duval County juvenile cases come in.  Your child’s lawyer will be able to help with your child with possible defenses.  She will also go through all the options available to your son or daughter.  At 20 Miles Law, a Jacksonville criminal attorney will be able to help your child through this tough time.  Call a Duval County lawyer at (904) 564-2525 or send an email by clicking on Find lawyer.
