Florida Criminal Defense Lawyers Association Membership

Florida Defense Attorneys

Florida Criminal Defense Lawyers fighting for justice.

Most Jacksonville lawyers are part of organizations affiliated with their line of practice.  Florida attorneys may join local bar associations.  Personal injury attorneys will join groups for accident lawyers.  Jacksonville criminal defense lawyers join organizations that focus on defending people that have been arrested.  When you join an association of people with similar interests, you are able to expand your knowledge.  You are able to speak with Florida criminal lawyers that have dealt with the same issues that your client may be going through.  You can share ideas and defenses in order to help your client.

There is one organization that I believe is the best resource for a Jacksonville criminal attorney.  If I had to pick one organization to be a part of, this would be it.  The Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers is also known as FACDL.  It is “the only statewide organization in Florida dedicated solely to the criminal defense attorney.  FACDL is a not-for-profit corporation formed exclusively for charitable, scientific and educational purposes, and affiliated with the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.”  This organization consists of over two thousand lawyers all over Florida.  This includes private attorneys and public defenders.  I joined the organization as a public defender.  When I left the public defenders office, I no longer had a large group of criminal attorneys to discuss legal matters.  The FACDL helps to fill that void.  The FACDL has many law seminars that focus on specific areas of the law.  There is also an annual meeting every year in June.  There is an invaluable list-serve which allows you to communicate with defense attorneys all over Florida. You will have the opportunity to market face-to-face with lawyers all over the state and through your local chapter.

You do not need to be an attorney to join the FACDL.  The FACDL welcomes law students as well.  You could be a first-year law student at Florida Coastal School of Law in Jacksonville FL.  You may be a second-year law student at the University of Florida in Gainesville FL.  You may be preparing to graduate from Stetson College of Law in Tampa FL.  If you have an interest in practicing criminal law, the FACDL is a great place to meet lawyers already working in the field.

The FACDL provides many benefits to its members.  It “has customized an array of services to provide the training, contacts, resources and information you need in your profession. As a member you will have the opportunity to broaden your network and seek professional recognition. You’ll be supported by a dedicated, experienced staff. That level of support is why FACDL is the leading statewide association exclusively serving the comprehensive needs of the criminal defense bar.”

Visit the Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers’ website for more information about this organization.  I have listed the FACDL’s contact information below.  Tell them that Cynthia Veintemillas sent you.
